Teaching Methodology

Teaching Methodology are general approaches or methods used to teach English. Over time they have changed and borrowed from research.

• Grammar Translation: this uses direct translation from the students' MT. This is generally considered old fashioned and not very productive or intuitive.

• Direct Method: full immersion. This imitates how native speakers learn a language; it effectively immerses the student in the target language.

• Behaviourist: rewards.

• Communicative: communication. This focusses on teaching certain pragmatic aspects of language such as how to perform certain functions.

• Eclectic: a mix of all the above.

• Full Immersion: use of English only.
