Online social networking offers a great opportunity to all Internet users to meet up virtually, exchange ideas, share common interests, develop business relationships, and so on.

Social networking websites function like an online community of internet users. Many of these online community members share a common interest such as hobbies, religion, or politics and making new friends is just one of the many benefits to social networking online. Another great benefit is diversity. People who join come from all walks of life, different backgrounds and various countries so not only will you make new friends, but you will have the opportunity to learn a thing or two about new cultures, new ways of doing things, new languages, etc.

Social networking can be general and allow anyone to join regardless of their interest, profession, etc. or it can be specific and allow specific individuals or organizations to group together.
