Jargon
Jargon is a specialised language used by people in a certain profession, job or activity. To an outsider it may seem unintelligible, but to a member of that group it is obvious and useful to explain sometimes esoteric points.
English Teachers have their own jargon: participle, false beginner, fce, chalkface, student-centered and so on. This ICALwiki is full of jargon and even the word jargon is part of an English teacher's jargon!
The Internet has its own jargon: internet, browser, hacker, URL, uptime, hosting and so on.
People may use jargon to leave an impression of knowledge or to confuse a person or to make it difficult for other people to understand what is being said.
Using jarogn can have advantages and disadvantages.
On the up side:
Jargon can give a person a sense of belonging to a specific group. Jargon is also a good way to communicate specific information efficiently in the workplace.
On the down side:
Jargon can leave someone feeling excluded from a conversation. The military, advertisers, and politicians are often criticized for using jargon. Using jargon in these areas leaves people wondering if the speakers have a hidden agenda.
