Independent Clauses
An independent clause is a clause that can stand alone and express a complete thought. An independent clause is a complete sentence.
To be independent, a clause must contain a verb and a subject and it must not begin with a subordinating conjunction.
The tailor's assistant quickly handed the tape measure.
The door opened.
I love cats.
Multiple independent clauses can be joined by using a semicolon or a comma plus a coordinating conjunction.
