Gerunds
From TEFL World Wiki
Sometimes we need to use a verb as the subject or object of a sentence. In this case we can use the gerund.
We make the gerund by adding -ing to the base form of the verb. The gerund has exactly the same form as the present participle of the verb:
Walking keeps me fit.
I like fishing.
In different grammars gerunds are also known as verbal nouns or -ing forms. For all intents and purposes, these have the same meaning.
