ELT
ELT is English Language Teaching.
There are a number of varieties of English language teaching which depend
a) the level of the students
b) the reason the students are learning
This second reason is of primary importance. Imagine a class of middle-aged businessmen who are learning English so they will be able to visit a factory in Asia to order goods and deal with the production facilities there.
Now imagine a class of teenagers who need to study English so they will pass their school exams.
Obviously as a teacher you will need to teach one class so-called Business English and the other class General English. Likewise, one class will use examples tailored towards middle-aged men (you might, for example, talk about the way in which plastics are moulded to practice talking about processes) whilst the other class will have examples more relevant to the teenagers (for example, you might talk about the way in which a music concert is organised to talk about processes).
Varieties of English you can teach include:
- General English
- Business English
- English for Academic Purposes (for students who will attend a university course)
- English for Special Purposes
