Determiners
From TEFL World Wiki
Determiners are words we put in front of a noun or noun phrase. They tell us about the number of items we are talking about and often restrict the use of the noun.
For example:
| determiner | noun | ... |
| cats | sleep a lot | |
| a | cat | sleeps a lot |
| the | cat | sleeps a lot |
| my | cat | sleeps a lot |
| most | cats | sleep a lot |
| some | cats | sleep a lot |
Determiners usually come before the noun or at the beginning of the noun phrase and we can generally only use one determiner for a noun phrase.
These are the classes of determiners:
| example | see |
| a, an, the | articles |
| my, your, his... | possessive pronouns |
| each, those... | indefinitve pronouns |
| few, many, some, all | quantifiers |
| this, that, these, those | demonstrative adjectives |
| one, two, three... first, second, third... | numbers |
