Coordination

Coordination is a way of combining clauses together. The clauses which we combine together through coordination are independent clauses.

The way in which we combine them is by way of coordinating conjunctions, like: and, or, but, so and a comma - usually placed in front of each coordinating conjunction.

Clauses before coordination:

Yesterday I bought eggs and milk.
Today I’m making a cake.

Clauses after coordination:

Yesterday I bought eggs and milk and today I’m making a cake.

Clauses before coordination:

You can send your CV by post.
Email it to us.

Clauses after coordination:

You can send your CV by post or email it to us.

Clauses before coordination:

The jumper was the wrong size.
She took it back to the store.

Clauses after coordination:

The jumper was the wrong size so she took it back to the store.
