Verbs are words used to refer to actions (to eat, to run, to talk) and feelings (to love, to hate, to regret).
Verbs are used to build sentences.
Verbs can be inflected. This means a verb can be changed to express tense, number and mood.
Verbs can be conjugated. When we conjugate a verb we list its inflected forms for each person.
Verbs have tenses. A tense indicates the time in which an action takes place. The main tenses in English are the past, the present, and the future.
Verbs have moods. Moods place an action in a specific context. For example, if a verb is used in the indicative mood we immediately know we are dealing with stating a fact, and reality. The imperative mood shows us we are in the realm of instructions and commands. The subjunctive tells us the speaker is expressing personal views like doubt, desire, supposition, or condition contrary to fact.
