The TEFL World Wiki Grammar Guide

The Grammar Guide section of this wiki is a comprehensive online grammar of English. It contains hundreds of pages on all aspects of English grammar in various contexts.

Grammar is essentially the "glue" which holds words together and gives them meaning in context. It comprises rules by which we can assign meaning: for example, in English we have a rule that says the subject of a declarative sentence comes first which means that when I say "Peter hit Joe" we all understand that Joe has a black eye and not Peter.

Is it important to know? Well, if you are a student learning English then most definitely, yes. If you are a teacher teaching English, then most definitely, yes. (And here's why.)
